Sapien began more than 20 years ago in the yards, when our founder Rob was asked by his father, a livestock producer, to help capture individual animal data more easily and reliably, so it could be used to make better calls. With no practical tools available, Rob taught himself to code and built a system that worked in real farming conditions. That system became the foundation of Sapien.
Today, Sapien is shaped by decades of experience across farming, consulting and software development. We work closely with livestock businesses to ensure data is captured accurately, insights stay relevant, and our system evolves in response to the needs of the people who rely on it. With over 25 years of experience leading software development teams, Leigh joined Sapien at a pivotal moment in 2024, as we embarked on a major initiative to modernise and unify our technology. He has laid the foundation for the next evolution of Sapien’s solutions—delivering deeper insights, greater accessibility, and a more robust platform to support producers into the future.

After a decade of consulting with Sapien, Chris officially joined the team, bringing deep familiarity with our markets, technology, and customers. His sales expertise has been instrumental in developing the systems and processes that support Sapien’s continued growth. Now leading the expansion of our sales team, Chris takes a hands-on, sleeves-up approach—connecting directly with producers to translate insight into impact and ensure they get the most from our tools.
